The Canterbury Tales: Why does the author out 'The Knight's Tale' first instead of the other stories?

The pilgrims originally agreed to tell their stories in the order of (their own) social ranking.The knight is the highest ranking of the pilgrims and is entitled to go first. Later the miller challenges the whole idea of telling according to rank.
