Why didnt people believe Alfred Wegener when he proposed the theory of Continental Drift?

It was a radical idea at the time and people are not always ready to accept radical ideas. Mostly all bold sceintific theories were rejected at first but then later accepted as common sense prevailed. Continential drift was no exception.
