T-Mobile G1 Phone Texting?

I really like the G1 phone from t-mobile and am considering getting a new phone since my sidekick is always falling apart. The G1 has everything I want, my only question is when texting, are texts like conversations as the iPhone and Palm Centro have or is it just a standard text? Thank You :)
